This field report was done for two months at Murchison Falls National Park. The field works was aimed at imparting practical skills in students in the area of Tourism management and get exposed to the dynamics of applying theoretical knowledge. The practical exercises covered include visitor handling, guiding, ticketing, booking and preparation of an itinerary. I also participated in law enforcement operations, scientific data collection from the field, use of field equipment like compass and GPS ETC. I was able to learn a number of practical skills that could make me compete favorably in the world of work and create linkage between in the areas already mentioned. On completing my training, skills acquired included; communication skills, customer care services to clients, record keeping, waste management skills, Patrols, data collection and analysis skills such as use of excel, tour guiding techniques, among others. During the field work process, I encountered some challenges which have been reflected as limitations to the study in chapter one of the report. Other factors that assisted in solving the challenges were also sought and this is what has been referred to delimitations. All these have been reflected in chapter one of the report. At the end of chapter five, some reference books used have been quoted. Appendices have been attached of documents that were involved in the process of field work. Photographs taken during the training in the park have also been attached as appendices at the end of the entire field report. The report has been fairly comprehensive, covering all the activities done within two months at Murchison Falls National Park. |
