Level of education and incidence of child neglect among parents in Kasodo sub county, Pallisa district

Abstract

The study examined the level of education and incidence of child neglect among Parents in Kasodo Sub County, Pallisa District with the following study objectives; to examine the relationship between parents with no formal education with incidence of child neglect, to investigate the relationship between parents with primary school level of education with incidence of child neglect, to investigate the relationship between parents with post-primary school level of education with incidence of child neglect in Kasodo Sub County, Pallisa District Local Government. The study employed a descriptive research design; cross sectional descriptive analysis was used to study the relationship between different variables at a point in time and the effort was made to establish the relationship between parents’ level of education and incidence of child neglect. Quantitative and qualitative data on the impact of parents’ level of education on incidence of child neglect in Kasodo sub-county, Pallisa District was collected using questionnaires. The study population was 3312 households in Kasodo Sub County, Pallisa District. From the target population, the study selected a total of 346 households as determined by Krejcie and Morgan’s 1970 table of sample size determination. Simple Random Sampling ensured representation across different socioeconomic and demographic groups; purposive Sampling was used to target specific sub-groups. A questionnaire was used to collect the data. The findings revealed that; there was a significant correlation between parents’ level of education and the incidence of child neglect.
