Poverty and domestic violence in Uganda :

Abstract

The study will be conducted to examine the impact of poverty on domestic violence particularly in Gogonyo Parish, Gogonyo Sub County, Pallisa District in Uganda and it will be based on three specific objectives; to establish the impact of income poverty on domestic violence in Gogonyo Parish, to establish the effect of social poverty on domestic violence and to establish the effect of chronic and transitory poverty on domestic violence. The study will adopt a cross-sectional research design, both quantitative and qualitative approaches will be used to test the causal relationship and predictive power of the independent variable on dependent variable. Data will be collected from a population comprising of Local Council Leaders, Community Based Organizations and Ordinary Community Members with accessible unit of inquiry being 40 respondents of Gogonyo Parish, using purposive and convenience sampling techniques. Data will be collected using closed ended questionnaire and semi structured interview guide, entered in SPSS version 20 and will be analyzed using descriptive statistics that is frequencies, and correlation, regression and themes results obtained.
