Abstract:
The farm and community practice industrial training report carried out at Mbale Veterinary Sector under Mbale District Local Government for a period of 10 weeks which started from 21St May 2018 to 27th July 2018. During farm and community practice, activities participated were such as pasture establishment and preservation, Castration, Dehorning, Animal Identification, De-worming, Post-mortem, Disease Prevention, Control, Diagnosis and treatment, and meat inspection.
During the training, I acquired more skills such as Diagnosis and management of animal disease and condition, gaining confidence in handling cases and time management. The challenges encountered during the field attachment were shortage of literature to support the methods, procedure and demonstrations, Transport costs, however the recommendations made were that; Mbale Municipal Abattoir should be renovated and more funds should be allocated to the vet sector in order to extend the advisory services to farmers, feed conservation and management practices. The training was successful at Mbale vet sector and very educative.
