Industrial training was carried out at Arapai campus Farm with the help and guidance of the field supervisor and the attendants who provided me with knowledge and relevant information,
The training was based on both crop and animal production and management where I participated in all sections.
In the animal section I was able to learn the type of fish ponds, fish species, type of feeds, testing turbidity of the water, Temp and Ph. of the water. Not only that I was able to learn about different types of pastures, their importance, propagation, pest and diseases control.
In addition to that I was able to learn about breeds of pigs e.g. land race and the large white.
And on the crop section I was able to learn about the horticultural crops, cereal crops and their management activities e.g. spacing, fertilizer application, weed control, pest and diseases control.
During I. T I gained a skill of how to test the turbidity of the water, ph. and the temp and how to differentiate the different varieties of crops and the activities carried out in the farm like establishing elephant grass, spraying and weeding the crop.
Challenges faced during the IT was lack of enough equipment's and tools, harsh climate which made the establishment of pastures hard
In conclusion despite of all the challenges faced, IT went on well with the gain of knowledge and I would recommend the university to add more equipment to the farm, construct latrines for the farm and attendants and buy more drugs to facilitate the treatment of animals. |
