A report of industrial training carried out at Buginyanya zonal agricultural and development institute, Masira sub-county in Bulambuli district.

Abstract

This report contains the orientation where I was first introduced to the Human resource and Director of research BugiZARDI. It also contains the introduction of industrial training (IT), background of the organization structure of BugiZARDI. It also describes the activities carried out, skills and qualifications gained; challenges faced during the IT, conclusion of the report and recommendations derived from. the challenges faced. I carried out the activities such as establishing a coffee nursery bed, sorting of field peas and wheat, manure application, weeding the nursery bed, pricking out and potting coffee seedlings, planting field peas, field marking, pruning de-sucking, harvesting bananas etc. Those activities made me gain a lot of skills and knowledge such as skills in potting, banana harvesting, skills in field marking, skills in de-suckering, pricking out, grafting and knowledge on data collection in weather elements such as rainfall, speed of wind, wind direction and temperature. I also got some knowledge in data collection in coffee and bananas under experimental trials during my internship. The enterprises found at BugiZARDI are banana, coffee, wheat, livestock, aquaculture and potato. However, some challenges- were faced like lack of crops in the greenhouse due to drought, limited access to internet and computers to carry out more research and heavy rainfall which could rain several times of the day also interrupted our field activities. In conclusion all the activities were implemented successfully and I was able to gain practical skills and knowledge in relation with my career. However, I recommend the government to provide all the necessary tools and equipment such as water pump, and structures like computer laboratory with good network.
